For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Answer

The High Mass Cooling functionality was introduced to Analyst® software to minimize the negative effects of very high RF voltages on the quadrupole rod arrays. It is used only on certain instruments (5500, and 6500 series in low mass mode only) in order to slightly extend the usable mass range while maintaining optimal ion transmission and sensitivity.

For full scans, when the average mass [(Start Mass + Stop Mass)/2] is equal to or greater than 1000 Da, high mass cooling time is applied. For MRM scans, if the Q1 or Q3 mass is equal to or greater than 1000 Da, high mass cooling time is applied (in the advanced tab of the MRM method).
