Answer

In Analyst® software, the integration algorithm (either Analyst Classic or Intelliquan) is chosen by the user; however, the integration type is not something that the user sets, but what the software decides when  peaks are automatically integrated.

The following are integration types by which the baseline is found and integrated when the peak is found:
1) Manual: The peak was manually integrated by the user.
2) Automatic: The peak was automatically integrated as follows:

  • Baseline-to-baseline: The peak area is defined by vertical droplines at the beginning and end of the peak which extend to the baseline. This integration type is possible only for peaks that do not have another peak immediately preceding or following.
  • Valley: Same as baseline-to-baseline, except that it applies only to peaks that do have another peak immediately preceding or following.
  • Exponential Skim: The peak area is the main or parent peak in an exponential skim.
  • Exponential Child: The peak area is the child peak resulting in an exponential skim.
The possible integration types are also listed on page 80 of the Analyst Software Advanced Users Guide. A column displaying the integration type can be added to an Analyst software results table by right clicking on the results table, selecting Table Settings, Edit and then selecting Integration Type as a column heading.
